2026-27 academic year

American History for Girls

Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary, One Story at a Time

Step into America’s story through the eyes of the girls who lived it.

A living history

The past comes alive through story.

At Lilac Lane Academy, we believe history is more than a collection of dates and events. History is the story of people—their courage, creativity, struggles, choices, faith, and perseverance. When children encounter the past through meaningful stories, they begin to understand not only what happened, but the lives of the people who shaped our world.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, girls ages 6–10 are invited to spend the academic year journeying through American history alongside beloved American Girl® characters—Kaya, Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Kit, and Molly.

Through living books, thoughtful conversations, the arts and sciences, and hands-on experiences, students will explore the people, places, and events that shaped our nation while growing in faith, character, and wonder.

A year of learning

A Year of Learning Through Story

Inspired by the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education, we believe children are capable of engaging with rich ideas and deserve an education filled with beauty, truth, and meaningful experiences.

Throughout the year, American history will serve as a central thread woven throughout our studies. Through historical fiction, biographies, nonfiction resources, maps, timelines, and creative projects, students will encounter history as a connected story rather than a collection of isolated facts.

As students journey alongside historical characters, they will explore what life was like in different times and places, consider the choices people made, and reflect on the courage, kindness, perseverance, and wisdom demonstrated by those who came before them.

The whole child

A Rich Feast of Learning

While American history provides the foundation for our year together, students will experience a full and engaging course of study that nurtures the whole child—mind, heart, and spirit.

Our days will include:

  • Art & Art Appreciation
  • Beginning American Sign Language
  • Beginning Spanish
  • Bible Memory
  • Church History
  • Cursive Handwriting
  • English Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Music Appreciation
  • Narration
  • Nature Journaling
  • Science
  • Hands-on projects and creative exploration

And more!

Each subject is carefully chosen to build strong academic foundations while cultivating curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Learning to live well

Growing in Wonder, Wisdom, and Character

At Lilac Lane Academy, education is about more than gaining knowledge. It is about becoming a thoughtful, capable, and compassionate person.

Through a warm, multi-age classroom community, students learn alongside one another, developing responsibility, confidence, generosity, and leadership. Through living books and meaningful stories, they encounter examples of courage, perseverance, humility, and faithfulness that inspire them to grow in character.

Together, we will seek truth, appreciate beauty, and discover the goodness found throughout God’s world.
